Christmas time can be such a rush. And not in a good, “what a rush!” way. In the “hurry, hurry! We’re gonna be late.” way.
I told myself that I wouldn’t be TOO busy this year.
That we’d focus on just a few things, and be intentional with our time, and not fill it with a ton of activities that are fun in theory but not so much in reality.
But that’s turned out to be harder than I expected. So many events that seemed well spaced throughout the months are all just piling up.
So much emphasis is placed on not just Christmas, but Christmas TIME. From the time stores put out that first @reeses Christmas tree, to the new year. Did you get your tree up?
Has your elf arrived?
Have you finished your shopping?
Are you going to all the light displays and parades?
It’s easy to take the fun and turn it into pure obligation.
So, from me to you, and me to me:

Take to time to enjoy what you do, and not just do it to fit in the experience. Stick with the traditions that hold the most enjoyment, and let everything else fall away.
Politely say no, and don’t beat yourself up when you forget something you intended to attend. It happens, and if you’re busy enough to forget, you probably didn’t need to be there anyway.

Independence.
This is the face of a little girl that just made her very first sandwich all on her own. Emma Faye turned three in October, and has continually surprised us. She’s sharp as a whip, and has far more words in her vocabulary than any of the other kids at this age.
Last night everyone was rummaging for an evening snack, (We skipped lunch and had an early dinner.) and Emma was right next to them, with her two slices of bread. When she finished making her sandwich she was so proud of her accomplishment. Spreading peanut butter and jelly can be tough!
If you think she’s only sharing the fruits of her labor with me here, don’t be mistaken. After telling me she made this all on her own, she asked me to take the crust off.

Ohh, heyyy!! I’m Kandace. Mama to 6, wife to one, sister to all. I WAS gonna share a picture of me with straight hair and a full face of makeup, but that’s only me, like, once a year. So, here’s a car selfie with my curly hair, powder, and mascara— I’m still dressed fancy, but like, lɐɯɹou fancy.

What. A. Day.
Today is one of those days that I’ll look back on and be happy I documented more than just the highlights of life, because these days are easy to forget.
It was a hard one. Lucille is on the cusp of cutting teeth. Her gums are swollen, and she’s a drool monster. And so, so cranky.
All of the weekend chores we usually catch up on Monday’s didn’t get done because Ryder stepped in a mud puddle and had to have his cast cut off and replaced in Austin. 🤦🏻♀️
This morning I thought for sure we’d take Tuesday by the horns and get allll the things done, but the only things I was able to accomplish fully was cleaning my room, and catching up on the dirty laundry that had piled up.
Even though I only crossed two things off my mile long list, I’m so incredibly thankful for our way of life. Chores can wait until tomorrow, and sometimes, so can school. We’re on no ones timeline but our own. In this season in life, I’m so grateful for the ability to do what works best for our family each day. Today, that was holding Lucille when she cried. And tonight, folding all the laundry after the kids have gone to bed.
If nothing else, I have clean sheets to sleep in tonight, and we all have clean clothes for tomorrow.

The kids love their new laser tag set from @kidpaltoys! We were so excited to use them, and they didn’t disappoint! I didn’t buy batteries ahead of time, (Duh, Mom!) so it was torture for the kids to have to wait until I did my grocery pickup from @walmart today to play.
